Random Name Picker

Paste your class list and draw a student at random — with remove-after-pick so nobody gets called twice. Fair cold-calling, right on your projector.

Cold-calling that stays fair

Calling on students at random keeps everyone thinking — but only if it's actually random and nobody gets skipped. This picker draws uniformly from your list, and with remove-after-pick on, every student is called once before anyone comes up again. Turn it off if you want pure random with repeats allowed.

Everything stays on your device: your class list is never uploaded, and 'Save list' just tucks it into this browser for next lesson. When you're ready for names that follow you across every class — with attendance, grades, seating and XP attached — that's what Level Up Classroom is for.

Name picker FAQ

How do I pick a random student without repeats?

Keep "Remove after pick" on (it's the default). Each drawn name is set aside so it can't come up again until you reset — everyone is picked once before anyone repeats.

Is this random name picker truly fair?

Yes — it draws uniformly among the remaining names using the browser's random generator, so every student has an equal chance each time.

Can I save my class list for next time?

Yes. "Save list" stores your names in this browser only (never uploaded), ready for next lesson.

Does it work on a smartboard or projector?

Yes — the full-screen button gives a big, high-contrast display, and dark mode suits low-light rooms.

How do I pick more than one name at once?

Use "Shuffle all" to randomize the whole list into a new order — great for pairs, line-ups, or picking several in sequence.
