Honest comparison
Level Up Classroom vs Schoology Learning
Schoology is PowerSchool's full district-licensed LMS. It's broad, deep, and bundled into PowerSchool SIS — but it's also slow to set up and not built for teachers who want to move fast on a Tuesday.
TL;DR — when to pick each
- ✓Pick Schoology Learning if your district runs PowerSchool SIS and Schoology is the bundled LMS — the integration is tight and the licensing is already paid.
- ✓Pick Level Up Classroom if you're an individual teacher or a school looking for a faster, modern gradebook with AI tools and gamification — without the multi-month district rollout.
- ✓Use both if Schoology is mandated but you want better daily-use tools (gradebook, AI report comments, gamification) on top.

Where Schoology genuinely wins
If your district already runs PowerSchool SIS, Schoology is the path of least resistance. Roster sync, attendance, schedule integration, and grade passback are native. There's nothing to set up — your account exists the day school starts.
Schoology also has the breadth you'd expect from a full LMS: course content authoring, discussion forums, learning objectives, integrated 3rd-party tools through LTI. For districts standardizing K-12 instructional content, that consistency matters.
Where Level Up Classroom is the better fit
Schoology is a district product. The features land where the district decides to enable them, and the configuration is opaque to teachers. If your district hasn't enabled rubrics, you don't have rubrics. If they haven't configured gradebook categories the way your course needs, you're stuck.
Level Up Classroom puts the configuration in the teacher's hands. Mark sets, learning skills, gamification, conditional release, AI tools — all controlled per-teacher. You can adapt it to your specific course, your specific grading philosophy, your specific students.
Plus the AI work that's just not in Schoology: pronoun-aware report card comments aligned to curriculum expectations, AI rubric and lesson generation, AI pop quizzes — all powered by Claude, with student names never sent to the AI service.
Coexistence
If your district has Schoology, you can use LUC alongside it for the things Schoology doesn't do well. LUC's PowerSchool integration via ClassLink + OneRoster (see our Schools page) means rosters can flow from PowerSchool → ClassLink → Level Up Classroom and you don't manually reconcile.
